PORTO HELI
                                                       "Bay of Eels"
                South West Peloponnese

Porto Heli (sometimes written as Porto Cheli or Porto Kheli) forms a natural harbour stretching around the head of a large bay at the tip of the Argolic Peninsula, opposite the island of Spetses.   Over the past decade, this calm harbour has become a favoured resort for owners of yachts and cruisers. A pine-covered headland almost encloses the bay and creates a large, natural, safe sailing area.
On the south side of Porto Heli bay there is evidence of the ancient walled city of Halieis where communal baths can been seen in the shallow water. Along the coast is the pretty village of Ermioni, which holds a market every Thursday and the pine covered peninsula boasts ruins to the Temple to Poseidon. Some of the most important archaeological sites of Greece
; Epidavros, Mycenae, Nafplion, Argos, Vytina, Ancient Olympia, Ancient Corinth, Delphi and Ancient Trizinia (the birth place of Theseus) are within easy reach of Porto Heli.

An excellent, inexpensive toll road was built in time for the Olympic Games held in Greece in 2000 and the 190kms from
Athens International Airport to Porto Heli can be
accomplished in two to three hours.

If you don't have a car for your first trip to this region, the Flying Dolphin hydrofoils operate a regular 4/times daily service from the Port of Piraeus. The service is fast and comfortable taking about the same time as the car journey. It operates throughout the year with two daily sailings even in the "winter" months.
